Aruba

The 21-mile-long Aruba justifies its reputation as “One Happy Island”, which is a popular nickname people use to refer to the beautiful Caribbean island, with its almost year-long sunshine, clear skies, and refreshing trade winds that prevent the island from ever feeling too hot. Besides only some short-lived showers on some days and a few yearly events occurring very scarcely, Aruba welcomes visitors with an idyllic climate, tropical, sugary beaches, and a bright sun shining every single day.

The hottest months are May through October, when the temperature average is around 31oC (88oF), while the coldest month is January, with an average of 27oC (81oF). As for the best month to enjoy the warmest waters, that would be October, when the sea greets you with a temperature of nearly 29oC (84oF).

Note: The trade winds that blow on the island appear to make sunbathing tolerable to a much greater extent than in other Caribbean regions. However, this is not 100% the case. The sun remains strong, especially around midday and the afternoon hours (between 11:00 and 14:30). It is advised to use high SPF sunscreens, particularly for individuals with fairer skin, and not be deceived by the refreshing breezes that may make the weather feel cooler than it really is.

Hurricane Season in Aruba

Aruba is far outside the hurricane belt and is significantly less threatened by hurricanes and intense tropical storms compared to the nations of the northern Caribbean. This does not mean that it’s unlikely that a hurricane hits the island – it’s much less likely that one impacts Aruba, though, even if it takes atypical trajectories and reaches the island. That aside, nearby tropical weather may have a small effect on Aruba, on occasions.

Rainfall in Aruba

Of all the Caribbean islands (roughly 700 in total), Aruba ranks as having the safest and most pleasant weather conditions rainfall-wise. Indeed, it receives approximately 15 inches of rainfall annually, which is the least amount of rainfall you will get compared to other tropical nations. The island rarely experiences anything other than short rain showers that mostly fall between October and January. Nevertheless, the rainfall is very little compared to other of Aruba’s siblings in the Caribbean. The wettest month, though, is November, with an average rainfall of around 3.7 inches.

Weather in Aruba by Season

• Spring – With the high season coming to an end in spring (the end of March), it is the time of the year with the lowest rainfall (April and May) and water temperatures averaging between 27oC-28oC (80.5oF – 82.5oF) in March/April and May, respectively. As for the temperature, it is between 25oC-31oC (77oF-88oF) in March, 26oC-32oC (78oF-89oF) in April, and 27oC-32oC (80oF-90oF) in May. Do pack some lightweight clothing when coming to Aruba in spring.
• Summer – Despite the higher average temperature that reaches 29oC (84oF), though it may climb up to 33oC (91oF) in August, Aruba’s trade winds cool off the coast, making the heat much more tolerable. This is also the time of the year when tropical storms start to make themselves noticeable. The same applies to hurricanes, which begin in June, end in November, and peak between August and October. As mentioned above, though, they are hardly dangerous and quite rare in Aruba’s latitudes. Do pack a rain jacket and high-SPF sunscreen if travelling to Aruba in the summertime.
• Fall – The waters are quite warm around this time of the year with temperatures averaging 28oF (82oF), ranging between 27oC (80oF) in September and October and 32oC (90oF) in November. The coolest they can be is near the 27oC (80oF) neighbourhood. Some tropical storms may occur in October and there are even rarer chances for a hurricane to strike the island, especially considering that November is when the Aruba hurricane season officially ends. For that reason, Aruba enters its peak season in November. However, the first huge wave of travellers in search of deals and significant discounts is seen in September and October.
• Winter – The winter signals the peak Aruba season (from November through March). The average water temperatures are around 26oC (79oF) in January and February, which is probably the coldest you’ll ever experience on the island, and 27oC (81oF) in December. Despite having the lowest water temperatures compared to the rest of the year, the sea is more than swimmable. There is a higher chance of precipitation, though, especially during the months of November and December. So, do consider packing waterproof items (i.e., rain jackets) with you if you are planning a trip to Aruba in winter. The temperature is between 30oC (86oF) in February and 32oC (89oF) in December, with the lowest being around 24oC (75oC) in January.
