Citizens of specific nations can travel to Saint Lucia without requiring a visa. Depending on their nationality, these nationals can stay between 15 and 180 days, while a few of them can even stay without any time limits. To be allowed to enter the country, they only need to show their passport and ID. In the majority of cases, this should be enough. However, the Immigration Officer may require additional documents if they feel these are needed.

Nationals of 50 specific countries can get a visa on arrival, as soon as they reach a Saint Lucia port of entry. Their visa allows them to stay in the country for 6 weeks.

Finally, travellers who are eligible for a visa on arrival must submit their visa application at the nearest Saint Lucia diplomatic mission. Kindly bear in mind, though, that the process of getting a visa issued in this way takes significantly more time than applying for it online or getting a visa on arrival, though.

Whether a traveller can enter Saint Lucia or not depends on several factors, such as the intended length of stay, purpose of travel, and citizenship. However, kindly check your country’s policies (country of citizenship) and Saint Lucia before planning your travel as the requirements for Saint Lucia are subject to rapid change due to security issues or world events (as are the policies of any other country in the world).

  • Nationals from the OECS (Organisation for Eastern Caribbean States) countries are visa exempt.
  • Nationals from the UK, the USA, Australia, and Canada visiting the country for vacation do not need to get a visa to enter Saint Lucia as long as their stay does not exceed 6 weeks. The only requirement for these travellers to visit Saint Lucia is either a government-issued photo ID, their passport, their social security card, their voter’s registration card, or a member-state-issued driver’s licence.
  • Nationals of EU (European Union) countries are visa exempt provided that their stay does not exceed 4 weeks. The only countries within the EU whose nationals need a visa to enter Saint Lucia are the Slovak Republic, the Czech Republic, Lithuania, Latvia, Hungary, and Estonia.
  • Nationals of a member country of the CARICOM (Caribbean Community) can enter the country without a visa as long as their stay does not exceed 180 days.
  • Travellers requiring a visa to enter Saint Lucia must ensure that their national passport has at least one blank page for the entry stamp.
  • Travellers from Venezuela and Colombia do not require a visa to visit Saint Lucia as long as their stay does not exceed three days. For longer visits, they are required to apply for a visa on arrival at the immigration office.
  • Travellers from countries like Senegal, Peru, Malaysia, India, and Ecuador need to apply for a visa on arrival as soon as they reach a port of entry in Saint Lucia. Nevertheless, they are called to have an alternative plan in place as there is always the possibility their visa application is rejected.
  • Travellers transiting through Saint Lucia via cruise ship do not need a visa unless they will be staying at the country’s port for more than 24 hours. Also, travellers whose department and arrival port is a US-based port do not need a visa to enter Saint Lucia.

To apply for a non-immigrant visa, one must intend to visit the country for study, pleasure, or business, and need to have a valid passport from their country of citizenship to get a Saint Lucia visa. It is important, though, that their passport is valid for up to six months. Other than that, they also need to have the following:

  • A return ticket to the port of origin.
  • 2 passport-size photographs (certified).
  • Any proof of stay (it could either be the hotel reservations or if staying with a friend or relative in Saint Lucia, proof of private accommodation).
  • A letter of invitation (if they are staying at a relative or friend’s house).
  • A copy of their travel itinerary.


Note: Kindly make sure that your Saint Lucia visa application is submitted to either the Saint Lucia Missions Overseas or the immigration department at least 2-3 weeks before the date you are expected to travel to secure a visa before your arrival. Although the process of a visa application is usually completed within 5-7 working days, it is wise to have some extra time ahead, just in case an extra document is required.

Visa processing fees: According to the information contained on the official website of the Government of Saint Lucia (you can also visit it for other visa-related details, here: Web Portal of the Government of Saint Lucia (govt.lc)), it costs EC$125 (USD$46) for a single entry visa (for stays up to 3 months) and EC$190 (USD$70) for a multiple entry visa, which allows you to enter the country as many times as you wish during a period of 12 months from the date of issue. Unlike other countries, though, there is no option to expedite your visa process. It should also be noted that travellers reaching Saint Lucia via a cruise ship are not called to pay the visa processing fees unless they are staying in the country’s port for more than 24 hours.

If you wish to stay for a longer period than initially stated, you can extend your stay in the country for another month at the most. In this case, you need to send your visa extension application to the Saint Lucia Immigration Department before your visa expires. The processing fee for this request is EC$200 (USD$74). Kindly note that travellers from Dominica and Barbados are not provided with a working holiday option. In this case, applying for a work permit is the best course of action.
